An Urban Adventure

If you think your treadmill experience is enhanced only by “nature” walks, think again. There is something about “urban” walks that create energy. In fact, I’m beginning to think a virtual walk through a beautiful, exotic city is much more dynamic. When you jog on a treadmill, for example, while watching an outdoors video, with chirping birds and droning bees and mountain vistas, you are experiencing Nature, but you’re not necessarily excited. In fact, you might be lulled into a peaceful mental excursion—and your pace on the treadmill probably slows down a bit.

But when you are jogging through the streets of a city like Macau, it’s a lot different. For one thing, the city is strange and exotic, which makes you mentally alert. The architecture is wild (imagine a Chinese temple transformed into a seventy story hotel) and the energy of the designers seems to put a spring in your step. The people are friendly, and the girls are pretty.  In the second chapter, day turns to night and you are walking through downtown Macau—an electric city pulsing with neon! It’s a little like Las Vegas, only impeccably clean. Beautiful fountains, brand name malls, and boardwalks along the water reflecting the lights of the city. In the third chapter, it’s still night and you are jogging through a different part of town—a little older and darker and more mysterious. I found myself a little more alert, which translates into a quicker treadmill pace. Then I found myself back on the electric streets of the newer part of town, where pinks and cobalt blues light up the night. But old town or new town, I’d defy you to find one gum wrapper on the streets.

What I really liked was the sense of jogging all through the night, because the Sun actually rises as you finish your workout. It’s morning in Macau!

A fun and energetic DVD for your treadmill or spin bike workout.

I enjoyed walking on my treadmill to this video, I actually walked longer than I normally would. It has 3 different walks and different times of day which I really enjoy. Walk One- this walk starts with you making a loop it seems over one of the bridges that has a bike and walking path. As you walk you will be by the water and see the skyline of the city. As you walk suddenly you enter an area like a park but it is in the city, people are sitting around or strolling by enjoying the beautiful day and nature. Nature and the city seem to just blend in together. You will just start relaxing as you walk, with the water and trees its very beautiful. It is getting later in the day and lights will start flickering getting ready to come on. It is a very nice walk. I found myself just relaxing and watching the people.
Walk Two-Evening has come in this walk and you will be walking in the city. Everything feels so different and so many different colored lights on the buildings and everywhere. So much to see with the shops, fountains and you will recognize some of the shops you walk by. Its wonderful how they put Nature everywhere and that helps you relax as you walk through the busy city with all the people and traffic, but it is exciting at the same time. There are so many different shapes of buildings that are strange and I found myself wanting to go inside and find out what they were. At the end of this walk you walk toward a very strange and interesting building that is surrounded by water, you hear the night sounds and the lapping of the water, as you walk you feel like you are the only one there. You will walk all around this building and slowly walk back into town.
Walk Three- This is a very interesting walk it is night and you start walking onto a black and white wavy lined street. It is the Historical area, and one thing that is different is that the buildings were white with black trim, very little color is in this area. As you walk you feel as though you are in a maze. You do not see very many people and you actually feel like you are the only one around. Occasionally you will hear music from a bar or the haunting music of a violin its beautiful. You see a lonely cat and she seems to be calling for her mate, it is such a sad sound. As you walk you will see the skyline in the distance, then you are walking out into the busy streets with all the flashing lights in the buildings and seeing the casinos. One of the things that Tony did I liked is that he walked in different directions so you can see both sides and not miss anything. This part of the walk is very busy with a lot of traffic, people and all that goes with the city. I found it to be interesting and an enjoyable walk. As the walk comes to an end early dawn starts breaking and a new day has arrived. Tony did a great job with this walking video, I like that he walked at different times of day it gives everything a totally different feel and sometimes I walk at different times so I can match it to whatever time of day I am walking. You won't regret getting this video it will help you enjoy your treadmill a lot more. Thanks Tony well done.

Review of the virtual walks macau DVD

Beautiful,
Okay, I know these are virtual exercise DVD's. If you have a treadmill or stationary bicycle, this DVD is intended to make your exercise routine more enjoyable and interesting. Or - you can utilize them the way I do - as the ultimate travel videos. I immerse myself in Tony Helsloot's DVD's just as I would if were actually on vacation at these locations and experiencing another culture and seeing different cities and what they have to offer firsthand. Do you love travel videos but hate the editing and the annoying narration? Do you wish you could take your time and dwell in certain locations and just experience it as it was intended to be - voiceover free and no split second editing to jar your viewing experience? Me too. That is why I cannot give enough praise for these Isis Asia Virtual Walks DVD's. Sometimes you want to be around people and bright lights, sometimes you want to go off by yourself and meditate upon the beautiful scenery before you. Tony offers you a bit of each. And I love to walk at night alone but unfortunately the world today has not made that a safe activity. My option is these DVD's where Tony excels at nighttime footage. I find myself with a huge smile spreading across my face as I follow the camera at night through a city I have never been before. The city light shows at night turn it into the best theme park ever.

But enough of my viewing preferences, let's talk about Macau - a place I never knew existed had it not been for Mr. Helsloot. Here is what this DVD offers:

Walk 1: From New Macau to the old town. We take a stroll underneath and across a very long white bridge toward the casino district of Macau. This is in bright daylight and I have to admit that I found this walk the most daunting. There is a narrow walkway on either side of the bridge and at first we are walking on the side that is against traffic. Yikes. My anxiety rose quite a bit. I'm afraid of heights and even more, I'm afraid of being hit by large commuter buses while walking on the edge of a very high bridge. Thankfully we switch to the other side of the bridge quickly and I breathe an audible sigh of relief. (Note: try to count how many cabs you see). The skyline is intriguing but not half as beautiful as it's going to be when night comes.

Walk 2: "The Las Vegas of the East" at nighttime. Wow. I am personally against gambling, but man, those casino light displays at nighttime are dazzling and amazing. I love it! You can smell the money in the air as you walk past designer stores and six star hotels. The night sky is an eerie dark chocolate brown with drifting clouds which leads us to my favorite part of the walk. We get away from the glitz and glamour for a while and head for the Macau Science Center, now deserted and looking like some kind of mad scientist hideout in a old fifties movie. It's quiet and cool and creepy and with that eerie sky, you feel like you have entered another world. I love it. Then we turn around and head back toward the colorful blinking lights of the city.

Walk 3: The Historic City. In 1535, Portuguese traders obtained the rights to anchor ships in Macau's harbors and to carry out trading activities. They soon built rudimentary stone houses around the area now called Nam Van. In 1557, the Portuguese established a permanent settlement in Macau. This is the strangest and quietest walk of the city through its Portuguese buildings and gorgeous tiled streets, with hardly any other sound except a soothing violin rendering of Ave Maria. Another world indeed. The walk continues into the morning hours when we are back at the casinos and ready to start another day.

Another amazing DVD from Tony Helsloot. And to my great pleasure, he has a whole line of brand new DVD's: Kuala Lumpur, The South of France, Tokyo at night (I was hoping he would do Tokyo), and another Singapore DVD which excites me greatly as I have both of his previous Singapore DVD's and they are my favorites, and Osaka, Japan. They are all definitely on my wish list. I can't say enough good things about these products and I highly recommend them if you want quality, beautiful scenery to watch while exercising. Or just to watch whenever. My collection of these wonderful DVD's is growing and I hope Tony continues to produce them. It's a big world out there, and I intend to explore all of it with Tony's help.
Gotham Night

The Macau walk is a lovely experience and I agree with one of the other reviewers that said it encouraged them to exercise for longer. It begins in daytime with a walk along stylish promenades, bridges and wide open spaces with fantastic architecture all around. As it moves to night you stroll past casinos and hotels and the illuminations are like that of a more sophisticated Vegas. The final part along the old city at night has a beautiful eeriness to it and if you manage to exercise in solitude you will get caught up in it as if you were there. The trailers for these walks are stunning but they are only a small part of a walk that continues to surprise every time I view it. I had no idea Macau was so beautiful!
